After completing one hat try it on and make adjustments as needed. The yarn and tension we use may differ. I have found with different yarn I have to change my needle size. Feel free to knit with circular needles, I do. If you use circular needles you will need four 6 inch double pointed needles to do the decrease at the end.
Cast 72 stitches on to needles
Knit 1 pearl 1 for six rows
Row 7 begin alternating knitting and pearling rows.
After 7.5 total inches knit 2 together one row.

You should have 9 stitches left.
Cut yarn about 16 inches
Pull yarn through the 9 stitches left then
Either sew or crochet hat together.
Hats must be made in green or tan camouflage, black, dark or medium gray yarn, tan or brown. The black can have a fleck of gray in it and the gray can have flecks of a darker or lighter gray or black in it. Brown or tan may also have flecks of a lighter or darker shade. Wool is best as it does not react to heat.
