Texas – Bexar County RW

Women at the Well House empowers formerly incarcerated women emotionally, spiritually, socially, and intellectually to become self-sufficient. For two years, the Bexar County RW have stocked the home with paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies, umbrella and rain bonnets, light bulbs, flatware, groceries and coupons gift card for local merchants and cash for emergencies.

SAMM Tranitional Center

Texas – Alamo City RW

SAMM Transitional Center – Homeless families are housed for a 2 year commitment. They must work a minimum of 30 hours weekly, attend parenting and finacial classes, get their GED, keep their rooms clean, and keep the communal kitchen, dining room, and family room clean. Alamo City RW looked after the children of 40 families in the evening, provided food at times, donated over 750 books to the library, donated 1,000 pair of children’s socks, dress-for-success clothes for adults, and provided mentoring.

Mini Libraries

Establish mini-libraries in battered women’s shelters, crisis pregnancy center’s, doctor’s offices, health centers, etc. Involve business donations, Rotary, Lion’s Club etc. (tax deductible). These books can be new or gently used books.

Buy a Book Jar

Buy a Book Jar is placed at every YCRW meeting and possibly YC GOP meeting to collect contributions to buy books for children.

A Day at Carowinds/Theme Park

English – Second Language Scholarship

Encourage U.S. citizenship by giving a scholarship to a student who is working on gaining U.S. citizenship, pass her GED in English and want to continue her education.

$1000.00 Republican Woman Scholarship

$1,000.00 scholarship can be given to a Republican woman who has completed two years of college to be used for continuing education. This scholarship can be awarded on essays, grades, communtiy and political involvement.

Charitable Christmas Party

YCRW held a Christmas party that included bringing new, unwrapped gifts for women and children, food items, gift cards etc. to be given to local charitable orgainications in their area. Ideas they had were giving them to a military family, Safe Passage, Children’s Attention Home, Crisis Pregnancy Center, and other…

Join Chamber of Commerce

The YCRW joined the local Chamber of Commerce with members attending their monthly meetings. This allows for clubs to put information and invitations in their racks and articles in the chamber’s newsletters.

High School Scholarship

Offer one scholarship per county high school, or choose a couple out of the possible number of schools, at $375 (or any figure). Deadline for application either April or May, before the end of the school year. The recipients is chosen based on grade point average, scholastic and extra-cirricular activities, plus a 500 word essay on a chosen topic. The scholarships can be presented at graduation cermonies, invited winner to club to read their essays and meet club members… you get the idea – this project makes for good press opportunities.
