Shields of Strength – Brown County RW purchased over 200 Shields of Strength for the soldiers and their families since September 2004. The Sheild look similar to a dog tag and has the American flag on one side with Joshua 1:9. On the other side is the a Prayer of Salvation.

One of the wives given a Shield reported that when she was first given the Shields (one for her and one for her husband), she wasn’t sure she should give it to her husband because he was really not a religious man. But before the deployment to Iraq she gave it to him anyways. One night he called her and sounded very emotional. He was assigned to a transportation group and the humbee in front of him was hit by an IED. No one wa skilled but some men in his squad were hit by shrapnel. He said that he held the Shield of Strength and began reading the words on ti and praying to God. Others in his squad wanted to know where he got his Shield so eighteen more were sent to him to pass out.

After one was given to a local serviceman, he requested more and thirty were given to him.

All of the Shields of Strength are accompanied by a not which reads: “Thanks you for your service to our Country. —Brown County Republican Women and the Republican Party.”

This club provides refreshements for a local Military and Family Support Group meeting twice a month.
